After spending the last 10 games with the Vipers, Terrence Jones was recalled by the Rockets yesterday and was replaced with another rookie – 22 year old Donatas Motiejunas.
Motiejunas had only played four games for the Vipers before last nights contest, and with averages of 23.5 points and 8.3 rebounds, it’s pretty clear why he’s spent most of his time with the Rockets. But he still isn’t getting anything other than garbage minutes, so it’s good to see him back in Vipers uniform. I’m not sure the Legends feel the same way though, as Motiejunas had a big game against them last night.
In 35 minutes, Motiejunas did a little bit of everything, as he finished with 19 points, nine rebounds, five assists, two blocks and one steal. There was no need for Motiejunas to put up big scoring numbers on this particular night because the rest of the teammates had it rolling. Terrell Harris had 22 points and 15 rebounds. Andrew Goudelock had 21 points and four assists. Maalik Wayns had 24 points, six rebounds and five assists off the bench.
This really was a team effort and it was a joy to watch. And with this win, the Vipers are not only two games behind the Bakersfield Jam for the best record in the league, but they also tied a franchise record for consecutive wins (six). They will look to continue that streak on Saturday as the visit Goudelock’s former team, the Sioux Falls Skyforce.
